The Shipley Enrichment Camp, founded in 1985, is designed to offer a balanced program of arts and athletics to boys and girls ages 5–12. Campers spend part of their day participating in soccer, floor hockey, kickball, and other games in a non-competitive environment and the other portion of their day experiencing ceramics, drama, arts and crafts, and sewing. Campers also enjoy Xploration, a science activity that includes experiments, problem solving, stream exploration and scavenger hunts. Twice a week the campers may choose activities for the afternoon based on their individual interests. Campers are kept active and engaged at a pace that allows them to enjoy the simple pleasures of their summer camp experience. All materials for our programs are provided by the camp.
Campers swim daily at the Bryn Mawr College indoor pool. Aftercare is available daily from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
All of the Activity Directors are experienced teachers. Our counselors are high school and college students and many formerly attended Shipley Enrichment Camp. We have a 5:1 camper/staff ratio and our average enrollment is 100 campers per week.
Terri Grossman, the camp director, has been the Lower School nurse at Shipley for sixteen years and has been involved with Shipley Enrichment Camp since 1999.
Our facilities at Shipley include ceramics and art rooms, two gyms, an all-weather artificial turf field and the Lower School Main Building. Fields, playgrounds, and ample air-conditioned indoor space make the Shipley Enrichment Camp a pleasant place for any youngster to spend the summer.
